Maria Grima

Yoga Therapist | Psycho-spiritual Counsellor

Maria Grima is a Yoga Therapist and Psycho-spiritual Counsellor with 20 years’ experience in the field of holistic wellbeing. After discovering the life-changing benefits of yoga and meditation whist recovering from cerebral malaria and a near-death experience in Nepal, as well as personal experience of utilising holistic practices to recover from psychological and physical exhaustion after many years working in a stressful corporate environment, she was drawn towards further exploration. What started out as a personal development and healing journey turned into so much more and after five years of training in yoga therapy, psycho-spiritual counselling and anatomy and physiology, she was offered a position at an Ayurvedic Retreat and founded Soulistic Yoga & Therapy in 2006. More recently, she has qualified as a Voice Dialogue Facilitator (The Psychology of the Selves), which complements all other aspects of her work by acknowledging and listening to the many different parts of us that make us a whole, well-rounded human being.

She offers online and in-person yoga and stress management courses that provide a regular touchstone of gentle holistic relaxation and reflection in what is a rather turbulent and challenging world to live in. The style of yoga offered is deeply nurturing and honours all our layers of consciousness: body, breath, mind/emotions, soul and spirit.

‘The sessions are a lesson in patience, as we live in a world where instant results are often demanded of us, so we in turn come to demand the same from ourselves. Our meditative practices provide the opportunity to reconnect to who we really are beyond the distraction and distortion of the mind, as we gradually become more in tune with our bodies, breath, and emotions, whilst developing a connection with our inner voice that can offer us a deeper wisdom and truth, if we were only still and quiet enough to listen.

The wonderful gift of our yoga and stress management practice is that when a client becomes confident and competent with certain gentle postures, breathing and relaxation techniques, they can practice alone at home, thereby becoming empowered to make a real difference to their own health and wellbeing. It’s something they can use to nourish and support themselves throughout their whole lives.’

John Osborn

John Osborn is a qualified Somatic Experience Practitioner and specialises in the treatment of Complex PTSD and Emotional / Developmental Trauma.

Currently working in private practice in Wiltshire he has over 16 years personal experience in recovery of, and working with, Complex-PTSD, Trauma, and Addiction.

He is the Co-Chair of the UK’s Somatic Experience Association (SEA-UK) and a member of the European Mentor & Coaching Council.

He also assists on Peter Levine’s Somatic Experience Practitioner training with SOSi.

Somatic Experiencing focusses on releasing the trapped survival energy that the body holds on to after an event (or events) that have been either too much, too fast, or too soon. It works with the nervous system itself. A nervous system that may be stuck in Fight/Flight/Freeze.

This survival system is based in the limbic and lower brain functions, areas that have no language skills at all. You simply can’t talk to it.

Somatic Experiencing involves tracking and working with these internal systems and sensations then releasing this stuck survival energy and allowing the ‘protective self’ to safely disengage.

It means that the body can finally let go of experiences it may have been holding on to all its life.
